Arcade Gallery, Call for Submissions, Word 6: An Architecture of
Multimodal Poetry/Text
Deadline: Works or descriptions must be submitted by September 30, 2012, before
midnight, to be considered. (HAS BEEN EXTENDED!!!! SEE ABOVE)
Artists+Writers: Help build the interior of a house which is inhabited by poetry/text that
hangs, opens, closes, locks, rusts, plays loud enough to wake the neighbors, bakes, rings,
burns, drips, melts, fits and bursts from the seams. Themes and interpretations include:
dwelling, gender, domesticity, darkness or light, absence, negative space; symbolism of chests,
drawers, wardrobes, shells, nests, corners, etc. Themes may differ per “room” the poem will
reside in.
Accepted/Encouraged Text Forms: Needlework, clothesline (text printed/
sewn onto clothing), fashion, stained glass window, audio/video (poems
recorded as telephone calls, voicemails audio poem in video) wallpaper,
sculpture (collaborations welcome), furniture, food, refrigerator poetry, floor
mats, installation, performance, dance, and anything not listed that may
survive the houses hold. Take the text off the page and build it into the
house!
Curators encourage anyone interested in participating to contact curators for
assistance throughout the submission process.
Eligibility: Artists/writers residing in the continental United States
