IMAGe Unit, the Interdisciplinary Arts and Media Department student organization, is hosting its second annual fundraiser in a West Loop loft apartment/art community on January 20. The irreverent theme, Fancy Pants Dance Party! will feature 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards (laser cut by IMAGe Unit) for the fanciest pants worn during the entire event. Attendees will enjoy an eclectic selection of music and still art, along with video projection and live performance/participation. Guests will have the opportunity to purchase art, music CDs, hand-made objects, and laser-cut jewelry, all of it original work made by Columbia Interarts students.
The event will feature Kmang Kmang, a classical-guitar rock band that re-imagines composer Barmey Ung’s Cambodian roots and other world traditions ; ongoing dance music with video projection; live and interactive performances; and an opportunity to participate in learning Dabka, a Palestinian cultural dance, led by MFA student Ahmed Hamad.
Festivities begin at 8:00 p.m. at 159 N. Racine, Suite 4, in Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood. $5 cover, $1 libations (by suggested donation, discount for individuals wearing “fancy pants!”)
