The Chicago Moving Company Presents 40th Anniversary Celebration Performance

Nana Shineflug once again promises to put out her all at the March 21–23 40th Anniversary Chicago Moving Company Concerts. This year’s spring performances will be linked to a series of special events, including a post-show conversation; a family workshop and matinee performance; and a special CMC Wild Rumpus After-Party after the last performance (see details below). All concerts and events will take place at the Columbia College’s Dance Center on South Michigan Avenue.

Says Nana, “I’m happy to be presenting versions of some of my favorite ‘spirit pieces:’ Parts of Coming Forth By Day (based on Normandi Ellis’ translation of the Egyptian Book of the Dead); Windows, based on three of Edward Hopper’s paintings; John Somebody, an edgy dance, on the darker side, based on the photographs of Robert Longo. I’m thrilled to be presenting a new piece, Patterns of Being, that I and many of my colleagues consider profound… but, I think some people may consider a bit strange.”

Alumni returning to take part in the concert include Betty Kass, Nancy Meeter Owens, Eileen Sheehan, Cindy Brandle, Derric Harris, Elizabeth Lentz, and Peter Sciscioli. InterArts faculty members Suzanne Cohan-Lange and Jeff Abell are also on board as artistic collaborators.

Performers include the Core CMC company, local and international guest artists, featured vocalists, and many interdisciplinary artists providing technical and artistic support with innovative visual and sound work. “I love juxtaposing the mundane and high spirit aspects of living in the physical plane,” says Shineflug. She plans to continue choreographing dances in the future, but sees the 40th Anniversary Concerts and Events to be her last evening presentation of works. “I look forward to sharing this time with my friends, family, and colleagues, and we are planning on it being a sell-out!”
