Hale Ekinci (Interarts & Media, MFA Candidate) and N. Eden Ünlüata (Interarts MA, 2010) will be presenting their work Mihrab at the 2010 Chicago Art Loop Open. The opening reception – Art Crawl will take place on Friday, October 15, 2010 from 5 pm to 8pm, at Block 37 Chicago, 108 North State Street Chicago, IL. 60602. Mihrab will be presented on the third floor. Art Crawl, will offer special “Artini” cocktails and other promotions. The event is organized by Chicago Artists’ Coalition (CAC) and the Chicago Loop Alliance (CLA).

Mihrab is a collaborative video installation that points to the parallel nature of material and spiritual as perceived in contemporarily, where the omnipresence of consumerism and religion, accompanied by their oppressive nature has become almost impossible to separate. In order to depict this, the artists use digital means that resemble the genuine experience of spirituality, where the line between material and intangible is permeable. This piece was developed as a part of Columbia College Chicago’s Critical Encounters (Fact and Faith), Digital Incarnate Student Response Exhibition (Spring, 2010).
