How do I check out equipment?
Not all classes check out equipment from the cage, but for those who do, you must be cleared. In order to be cleared to check out equipment from the Cage, follow the following steps:
- First, watch The Cage Video.
- Second, complete the Electronic Cage Policies and Procedures form before your next class. We’ll clear you in the system! Need a .pdf of the Policies and Procedures for your records? Click Here!
- Finally, check out the equipment allotted for the class you’re in, as it’s listed in the chart below.
What equipment am I allowed to take out for my class?
The below chart reflects the equipment students are allowed to use, according to the class in which they are enrolled. Click for a larger version.
Some additional equipment is available to advanced students after being certified. Go to the cage and ask for special training availability.

Want to use the studio space for your production?
Often times, your class project could benefit from being taped in a large space like one of our studios on 15. You need to reserve this space, and the rules and procedures are a bit different than reserving an edit bay. Attached are the forms you need to make these reservations. You can also find these forms outside Engineering.
Guidelines for video productions on school grounds
If you are interested in conducting camera shootings on campus, please review the Class-Related Television Production Guidelines by the Office of Campus Safety & Security and Television Department. Your request must be approved by our office for relevant campus space shootings.
