Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alumnus Pat Whalen (BA ’10), a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BA Program in Acting, headlines a “Special Budgetary Edition” of his monthly show Good Evening with Pat Whalen on Friday, July 1, at 11 PM at The Frontier theatre, 1106 W. Thorndale, in Chicago’s Edgewater neighborhood.

Good Evening with Pat Whalen — billed as “Chicago’s Only Late-Night Talk-Show News-Alternative” — is a monthly late-night series that examines Chicago’s politics, arts, and culture through a satirical lens. Hosted by Pat Whalen, the show offers features performances, interviews, and games for a live studio audience to witness (and sometimes participate in). Investigating the city’s socio-political climate while also celebrating its cultural vibrancy, Whalen and his team strive to entertain, educate, and give viewers the best evening ever. Good Evening is presented on the first Friday of each month at The Frontier, presented by Underscore Studios in association with Jackalope Theatre Company. Whalen is a Jackalope company member.
Marking one full year without a state budget in Illinois, the July edition of Good Evening with Pat Whalen will feature special guest State Senator Daniel Biss, who represents the state’s 9th District (including Chicago’s Edgewater neighborhood). He will attempt to get Pat up to speed on the goings on (or lack thereof) in Springfield. Also featured are Fran Hoepfner, digital editor at The Onion, and musician Isaiah Lewis Collier.

Besides the show’s host/creator Whalen, Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alumni on the creative and production team for Good Evening with Pat Whalen include executive producer J. Cody Spellman (BA ’13) and associate producer Kaiser Ahmed (BA ’08), graduates of the Theatre Department’s Theatre Directing program; guest coordinator/assistant producer Andrew Burden Swanson; writer Gus Menary; and door man Jon Cohen (BA ’08), a graduate of Columbia’s Acting BA program.

The show’s director of photography is Columbia College alumnus Alex Hand (BA ’12), a graduate of Columbia College’s film and video program with a concentration in traditional animation as well as a Minor in Acting from the Theatre Department.
