Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alum Tyla Abercrumbie ’98, a regular cast member of the Showtime series The Chi, will join the of the new CBS TV series NCIS: Origins, which debuts in the 2024-2025 broadcast season. The entertainment news site Deadline reported on March 26 that NCIS: Origins, a prequel to CBS’ long-running hit series NCIS, “has a straight-to-series order for the 2024-2025 broadcast season.” NCIS is an American police procedural drama television series revolving around a fictional team of special agents of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, the primary federal law-enforcement agency of the United States Navy. Deadline reports: “Abercrumbie will play Field Operation Support Officer Mary Jo who is both a product of her time and the lifeblood of the Camp Pendleton office. With all the acronyms floating around the agency, this mama bear has wryly dubbed herself ‘HSIC’: Head Secretary in Charge. In addition to acting, Abercrumbie is an accomplished playwright. Her drama Relentless premiered in 2022 at Chicago’s TimeLine Theatre, where Abercrumbie is a company member. The play received a Joseph Jefferson Award for New Work and the Black Theater Alliance/Ira Aldridge Awards’ Lorraine Hansberry Award for Writing of a Play.
