Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alums Jayme Woj ’10 and Sarah Alysse ’10, both graduates of the Theatre Department’s BFA Program in Musical Theatre Performance, have formed a music group called maybesoon and are releasing their debut single, “Maybe Soon,” this weekend. The electro-pop duo maybesoon combines music, body-paint art, and cinematic storytelling. Their new song, “Maybe Soon,” is an exploration of the intricate dance of relationships, the nuances of anxiety, and the courage it takes to reach out to those who matter most. The video drops Friday, June 16, 2023, and is available across all major streaming platforms.
Artist-entrepreneurs Jayme Woj and Sarah Alysse – aka maybesoon – met as students in the Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department’s Musical Theatre program. After graduating with Musical Theatre Performance BFA degrees in 2010, the two took separate paths for a decade. Jayme, an actor, singer, songwriter, and stage combat artist, completed an MFA in Acting at the prestigious Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, then returned to the U.S. to work as an actor and stunt fighter in Los Angeles, where he also began releasing original music and audiovisuals under the maybesoon brand. He relocated to New York City in 2020 to continue his acting career and to open a New York branch of The Academy of Theatrical Combat, where he serves as a master instructor. He also co-founded the New York-based production company and actors’ studio TandemVision, which empowers actors to master their craft and self-produce their own independent projects.
Singer-songwriter Sarah Alysse stayed in Chicago after graduating from Columbia, performing as a singer at such venues as Davenport’s Piano Bar & Cabaret and the speakeasy Lower Broadway and also singing backup for local musicians. Her band, Sarah Alysse and the Chi-Town Suits, played at corporate events and venues throughout the city. Sarah is also the founder and CEO of Live Well Enhance You LLC, a wellness and stress management service that assists corporations and corporate employees in creating “out-of-the-box soulutions.” She utilizes her background in musical theatre to coach others how to be confident and understand the connection between the brain and body.
