Cynthia L. Dorsey
Congratulations to Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alum Cynthia L. Dorsey ’05, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BA Program in Acting. The BroadwayWorld entertainment news site and American Theatre report that Dorsey has been awarded the Prince/TTLP Fellowship, a three-year paid fellowship administered by Columbia University School of the Arts in New York City and funded through partnership between the Prince Fellowship — which was established by the late Broadway producer and director Harold Prince — and The Theatre Leadership Project (TTLP), a nonprofit organization whose mission is to transform and strengthen American theatre by investing in mentorships, training, job placement, and long-term support for Black creatives in key leadership positions. The three-year program offers mentorship provided by some of Broadway’s most prolific producers, access to Columbia University classes, workshop funds, and professional placement in a producer’s office as an associate producer. The final year of the program is focused on project development, with the fellow charting their journey with financial and resource support from TTLP.

Cynthia L. Dorsey — self-described “director, actor, writer, filmmaker, and artspreneur” — is the founder and artistic director of SoulFLY Theatre Society, a grassroots community theatre and entertainment group that seeks to unify communities at home and abroad through the Arts. SoulFLY is located in Washington, D.C., where Dorsey has been teaching theatre in public schools since 2011. After receiving her BA from Columbia College, she received a MA in Pan African Studies from Syracuse University. She is a multi-disciplinary artist with a desire to positively represent communities of color and other marginalized groups on stage and in film in a way that authentically speaks to their vast history and culture.
