Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alum Darren Patin ’17, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BFA Program in Musical Theatre Performance, is featured in Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Othello, the Moor of Venice, running October 8 through December 5 at Court Theatre, located at 5535 S. Ellis in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood.
Patin, who also performs in Chicago as drag queen Ari Gato, is making his Court Theatre debut playing the role of Bianca.
The production’s movement designer is Columbia College alum Erin Kilmurray ’08, a graduate of the Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago’s BA Program in Dance.
Using a stripped-down script, non-traditional casting, and scenic design that places audiences in the middle of the action, this telling of The Tragedy of Othello, the Moor of Venice grapples with how complex notions of race, gender, and complicity speak to a world on the brink of change. In addition to live performances, a digital version will be available to stream on-demand. For tickets, click here.
