Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alumni Claire Chrzan (BA ’11) and Julia Rohed (BA ’13) are helping bring Katrina: Mother-in-Law of ‘Em All to Chicago. The dark comedy’s midwest premiere is presented by Interrobang Theatre Project September 4-October 4 at the Den Theatre, 1333 N. Milwaukee, in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood.
Chrzan, a graduate of Columbia’s BA Program in Theatre Design, is designing the show’s lights, and Rohed, a graduate of Columbia’s Theatre Directing program, is the production’s dramaturg.
The play, by Rob Florence, follows six individuals as they recount their true, harrowing and yet somehow hopeful stories about surviving one of the worst disasters in U.S. history. Both humorous and poignant, it reaches beyond New Orleans, beyond Hurricane Katrina, and taps into humans’ primordial need to survive even under the worst of conditions.
