Alumni and current students from the Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department are pooling their talents for The 24 Hour Solo Show, an evening of one-person performances, on Saturday, February 25. The event starts at 9 PM at the Pendulum Theatre, 1803 W. Byron, in Chicago. The venue is located a short walk from the Irving Park Brown Line elevated train station. Tickets are “PAY WHAT YOU CAN, FREE IF YOU’RE BROKE” at the door. For more information, call 872-216-8775.
The cast members of The 24 Hour Solo Show will each have only 24 hours to write, devise, and rehearse an entirely new, original show around himself or herself. Each autobiographical piece will give the audience an intimate look at the performer-writers’ lives. Selections will range from the traditional to the surreal, both personal and impersonal, exciting and depressing. It’s described as “an experiment in how we perceive and react to our lives in a short amount of time.”
The company includes Columbia College Chicago alums David Gordezky ’15, Jennifer Kiehl ’15, Abigail Phelps ’15, and Anna Wolfe ’15, all graduates of the Theatre Department’s Acting program. Also performing are Kyle Howard Hamlin, a student in the Theatre Department’s Playwriting program; Comedy Writing and Performance BA student Kathleen Kinlin; and Musical Theatre BA student Alex Fortune.
