Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alumni are gearing up for new shows opening shortly on Chicago stages.
Michael Allen Harris, a 2011 graduate of Columbia’s BFA program in Acting, is in the cast of Adventure Stage Chicago‘s world premiere of Worthy, running April 17-May 16. The family-friendly show is an adventure quest about four young heroes who fight dragons, break curses, and choose for themselves which paths to follow. Mike Mroch, a 2011 graduate of Columbia’s BFA program in Theatre Directing, is designing the set for Quiz Show, running May 1-June 13 at Strawdog Theatre, 3829 N. Broadway, Chicago, where Mroch is an ensemble member and general manager. Strawdog ensemble member John Kelly, a Columbia College Theatre Design major, is designing the lights; Paul Deziel, a 2014 graduate of Columbia’s Technical Theatre program, is the projections designer; and Nicole Kutcher, a 2013 graduate of Columbia’s Technical Theatre program, is stage manager. Strawdog’s artistic director, Hank Boland, is a faculty member in the Columbia College Chicago Cinema Art + Science department. The production marks the U.S. premiere of British playwright Rob Drummond’s satire of TV game shows, the power of celebrity, and the horrors it can disguise.
