Columbia College Chicago Theatre Alums Bring Chicago Premiere of ‘Black Cypress Bayou’ to the Stage Feb. 13-March 15

Columbia College Chicago Theatre alums are in the cast and creative team of Black Cypress Bayou, a Chicago premiere running February 13 through March 15 at Definition Theatre, located at 1160 E. 55th St. on Chicago’s South Side. Student discounts are available. For tickets, click here.

Set on a sweltering Texas night in the middle of a pandemic, the drama concerns a family of Black women clashing over what to do when the richest man in East Texas turns up dead on their property and buried truths begin to rise from the bayou swamp. The show’s cast includes Columbia College alums Rita Wicks ’22 and RjW Mays ’06, both graduates of the Theatre Department’s BA Program in Acting.

Conchita Avitia

The production’s lighting designer is Columbia College alum Conchita Avitia ’18, a graduate of the Theatre Program’s BA Program in Theatre Design.
