Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alum Darren Patin ’17, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BFA Program in Musical Theatre Performance, has taken over the lead role in Clifford Bradshaw in Porchlight Music Theatre‘s acclaimed production of the classic musical Cabaret, extended through March 19 at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts, located at 1016 N. Dearborn in Chicago. Patin was originally cast as an ensemble member in the show, but with the production’s extension due to popular demand he has replaced the actor who previously played Clifford. With a score by John Kander and Fred Ebb and a book by Joe Masteroff (based on Christopher Isherwood’s “Berlin Stories”), Cabaret focuses on the complicated love affair between Clifford Bradshaw, a bisexual American writer visiting Berlin in the late 1920s, and Sally Bowles, a British cabaret singer performing at Berlin’s notorious Kit Kat Klub.
The show’s ensemble also includes Columbia College alums Jerod Turner ’22, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BFA Program in Musical Theatre Performance, and Natalie Henry ’22, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BA Program in Musical Theatre. And former Columbia College Theatre Department student Sheryl Williams is the production’s intimacy and fight choreographer.
