Notes & Letters, a new musical by Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alum Annabelle Revak ’19, will be presented in a workshop production by Underscore Theatre Company July 29 through August 2 at the Understudy, located at 4609 N. Clark in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood. The audience is encouraged to stay after the performance to answer questions, offer opinions and help the continued development of the musical.
With book, music, and lyrics by Revak, who graduated with a double BA in Musical Theatre from the Theatre Department and Music Composition from the Columbia College Chicago Music Department, Notes & Letters follows the journey of a man named Joe from war-torn Prague to Williams Piano Shop in Chicago 1917, before the United States has been involved in the “great war” that is ravaging Europe. In Chicago quickly befriends the owner Charlie, his girlfriend Nora, and composer Olivia. The foursome become inseparable — until World War I hits the U.S. Then businesses, relationships, and lives are put to the test. Based on a true story and set to a jazz-contemporary score, Notes & Letters concerns four young people struggling to make choices amid complete chaos.
