Columbia College Chicago Theatre Dept. Alum’s Company Seeks New Plays for August Festival; Deadline Is May 26 for Submissions

Anna Rose Ii-Epstein

Nothing Without a Company, an experimental theatre ensemble founded by Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alum Anna Rose Ii-Epstein ’07, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s Acting program, is seeking submissions for its second annual New World Play Festival, a showcase of new site-specific environmental works. The plays accepted for production will be performed over three weekends in August 2019 in public Chicago park locations.

“Please note that site-specific for NWAC means that the setting of the play should take place within the location selected (for example, a swimming pool should be used as a swimming pool, not as a traditional stage for a non-pool-involved script),” says a statement from NWAC. “Consider how characters communicate and behave in public spaces. What about the location is interesting to you? What is the community in the location you are writing for? Although we don’t make strict creative policies about content and are aiming at adult and teen audiences, the plays will be performed in public parks; dialogue at a PG-13 level is probably the most appropriate.”

Proposals for devised pieces will be accepted from until May 26, 2019 (11:59 pm CST). For more information, contact literary manager Kevin Sparrow at kevin@nothingwithoutacompany.org.
