Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alum Jess Godwin ’05, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BA Program in Acting, will perform in concert Friday and Saturday, August 17 and 18, at Steppenwolf Theatre‘s intimate, flexible 1700 Theatre space, located at 1700 N. The performance will be a pre-release celebration for Godwin’s new CD, Dear Finch, which is set to come out in September. In Dear Finch, singer-songwriter Godwin will lead a vocal ensemble of eight women — including alumna Lauren Griffith ’15, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BFA Program in Musical Theatre Performance — in a series of songs and stories inspired by anonymous handwritten letters from all over the world. Dear Finch delivers soaring vocals and message driven pop with a soft spot for gospel. A portion of the proceeds from the concerts will go to support “Shameless,” a workshop program led by Godwin to help students fight shame with basic songwriting in partnership with the nonprofit organization Unsilence.
