Columbia College Chicago Theatre Alum Featured in New Drama About Congolese Civil War Aug. 17-Sept. 10

Chris McClellan

Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alumnus Christopher McClellan ’17, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BA Program in Acting, is featured in Sister Africa, a world premiere drama about efforts to aid female and child victims of the Congo’s ongoing civil war. Presented by Genesis Theatrical Productions, the play is drawn from playwright Stephanie Liss’ own experiences travelling to the Democratic Republic of the Congo with members of Jewish World Watch, an activist organization dedicated to ending genocide and mass atrocities worldwide and to providing support and building resilience to those living in conflict-affected communities. The play is based on hundreds of hours of interviews – not only with the victims of rape and torture, but with child soldiers and the staff of Jewish World Watch. It is a play about two peoples, Jews and Congolese, who have lived through unspeakable horrors and how they can help to heal each other. McClellan will play a teenage Congolese soldier.

Sister Africa will be performed August 17-September 10 at the Athenaeum Theatre, 2936 N. Southport, in Chicago’s Belmont Theatre District. For tickets, call 773-935-6860 or click here.
