Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department Alum Appears in California Theatre’s Antiwar ‘Johnny Cycle’ May 5-27

Julia Henning

Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alum Julia Henning ’15, a graduate of the Theatre Department’s BA Program in Acting, is in the cast of The Johnny Cycle: Part III–The Living, presented May 5-27 at the Mountain View Mausoleum in Altadena, California. This powerful experimental piece, inspired by Dalton Trumbo’s classic antiwar novel Johnny Got His Gun, gives voice to Johnny, a wounded World War I soldier, trapped in his own mind, struggling to communicate in a world where his dreams and memories bleed into those of others. The production is the culmination of a three-year theatrical investigation of the Trumbo text by the Speakeasy Society, a Los Angeles-based immersive theatre company dedicated to “creating intimate and epic experiences in unexpected places” and “crafting a shared experience where audience interaction becomes a vital aspect of the performance.”
