A new play by Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alumnus Michael Allen Harris (BFA ’11), a graduate of the Theatre Department’s acting program, is receiving a staged reading on Saturday, June 5, at 7 PM at Victory Gardens Theater, 2433 N. Lincoln, Chicago. Titled Kingdom, the play is being developed by Broken Nose Theatre in its new program “The Paper Trail,” which helps playwrights bring new works to life through rehearsals, table work, staged readings, literary management, and other developmental support.

Kingdom concerns a two gay men — partners of 50 years — who must come to terms with their differing opinions on the value of becoming husbands after the state of Florida legalizes same-sex marriage. Kingdom is the story of an LGBTQ African-American family living in the near-literal shadow of the Disney Kingdom, as they struggle to create a life together that captures a little bit of that same magic.
