Columbia College Chicago alumni are featured in the musical Dreamgirls, presented by Porchlight Music Theatre starting April 8 at Stage 773.
Porchlight’s Dreamgirls co-stars Candace Edwards (BA ’08), a graduate of the Columbia College Chicago Journalism Department‘s Broadcast Journalism program. Edwards plays Deena Jones, lead singer of the fictitious black vocal group the Dreams, in this revival of the 1981 Broadway hit about the soul music scene of the 1960s. The cast also features Jared Grant (BA ’12), a graduate of the Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department‘s Musical Theatre BA program, and Cherise Thomas (BA ’13), a graduate of the Columbia College Chicago Music Department‘s BA program in Music with a Vocal Performance concentration. The show is directed by Brenda Didier, who has been a guest instructor in the Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department’s musical theatre program.
