Haven Theatre Company, co-founded by Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department alumni Carol Cohen and Cody Estle, closes its 2014-2015 season with the Chicago premiere of Stephen Belber’s Don’t Go Gentle. The play–about a conservative white judge whose offer of free legal assistance to a black ex-convict creates conflict with his own grown children–is directed by Estle, Haven’s Artistic Associate and a graduate of Columbia College’s Theatre Directing Program. Cohen, Haven’s executive director, who studied Theatre Design at the Columbia College Chicago Theatre Department, is designing the show’s costumes. The cast includes Robyn Coffin, a graduate of the Columbia College Theatre Department’s Bachelor of Arts in Acting Program.
Another Columbia alumnus, Sam Hubbard, who graduated with a BFA in Acting, is the production’s fight choreographer. Haven Theatre’s artistic director, Josh Sobel, is a Columbia College Theatre Department faculty member.
Don’t Go Gentle begins previews May 31 and opens June 5 at Theater Wit, 1229 W. Belmont, Chicago, running through July 12. For tickets, click here or call 773-975-8150.
