The NYC Sidewalk Violations Scholarship

  • Award Amount: USD $1,000
  • Application Deadline: June 30, 2026
  • Open To: High school seniors and currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate students in the U.S. or Canada

Essay Prompt:

“The Role of Sidewalks in Building Safer and More Inclusive Communities.”

Applicants are asked to submit a 750–1,000 word essay that reflects on how sidewalk design, maintenance, and accessibility impact public life—from personal experiences to policy failures, and everything in between.

Suggested themes include:

  • Walkability and economic or social equity
  • Risks posed by neglected sidewalks, especially to vulnerable populations
  • Urban planning failures or success stories
  • Personal stories about infrastructure challenges or change

Eligibility Highlights:

  • No GPA requirement
  • Open to all majors (not limited to engineering or city planning)
  • Students must be enrolled or accepted at an accredited U.S. or Canadian institution
  • Submission must include proof of enrollment and the completed essay (PDF or Word format)
