It has been a very intense last month of school! Projects include recreating “Time” from Inception (a very difficult and rewarding process), re-scoring the main titles for Life of Pi, mixing a rhythmic drum piece in surround, and writing in the style of Clint Mansell. The amount of work is definitely daunting. However, this is something a film composer must be accustomed to. It is interesting to look back at the beginning of the year. I don’t know how I could have finished all these projects back then. My cohort has learned how to write more quickly, efficiently, and of course, for the screen. The second years are packing and looking towards LA. In the next two weeks, they will start their journey, and prepare for their summer internship. I can’t wait to hear how their internships are going. Look for interviews with them soon, I will be posting them throughout the summer.

Even though my schedule has been jam packed, I’ve found some time to see The Knife live in concert. Take a look at this video I shot, featuring a custom built bass instrument.

My plans for summer include a part-time job, possibly an internship (more on that later), playing some live shows with my band Super Doppler Wars, and working on scoring commercials and short films. Also, I was planning to go to Lollapalooza, located in the front yard of campus. I knew that tickets would go quickly, so I kept on top of the lineup. Unfortunately, the tickets went on sale and sold out before they released the lineup. I don’t really understand why they put the tickets on sale before letting people know who will be playing. As a great alternative to Lolla, I am looking forward to Pitchfork Music festival, being hosted at Union Park here in Chicago. It’s about a third of the cost, and I could see who was playing before I bought a ticket. I can’t wait for summer!
