Trying to soak in the warm weather, my roommate and I ventured to Design Harvest.  This unique street festival took place on October 1 & 2 in West Town on Grand Avenue between Damen and Wood.  The festival was presented by The West Town Chamber of Commerce and Post 27.  Design Harvest featured Chicago’s talented furniture and home accessory makers, vintage and antique collectors, and other talented local home design industry professionals.

I especially enjoyed Urban Environments, which is a full-scale design atelier based in Lincoln Park.  They specialize in window treatments, drapery, and wall covering.

Considering this festival featured beautifully crafted furniture and other home furnishings, I was shocked by how many dogs were on site.  Don’t get me wrong, it was a pleasant surprise, but I found it strange that a festival featuring expensive furniture would be so dog friendly.

In addition to the hundreds of cute dogs, there was a plethora of excellent local food vendors, including the Tamale Spaceship food truck.  I ordered two yummy chicken tamales for $5. What a deal!

To top it off, Chicago’s favorite music venue, The Hideout, programmed the musical entertainment.  Califone headlined on Saturday, and Golden Horse Ranch Square Dance Band capped the festival off on Sunday evening.

In addition to the street fest, we wandered around the corner to Salvage One.  This store is over 60,000 square feet and filled with vintage design items that have been recycled and salvaged.  It is three stories high and each floor has something special to offer.  I was most impressed by the beautiful chandeliers.

In addition to selling furniture, they also rent their space out for events.  The space offers a sense of charm and wonder.  I can’t wait to go back!  All in all, it was a perfect Sunday Funday.
