Have jokes? Need an audience? Come on down to the Library’s 5C Comedy Open Mic night! Sign up at 6pm for a five-minute slot.

Submitathon

Wednesday, November 1st, 7-9pm

Bring in any fiction, nonfiction, or poetry work and Pub Lab staff will help you submit them to the latest contests and lit mags. They’ll guide you through the whole process, offering advice on markets, cover letters, and editing.

Naming of the Paula Singer Epstein Library Classroom

Thursday, November 2nd, 4-6pm

Join the Library as we name the library classroom after one of our beloved former colleagues, Paula Epstein. Paula provided library instruction (as well as humor and lots of candy) to hundreds of Columbia students, and was a friend to everyone she met during her tenure at the college. Library Zine Night

Monday, November 6th, 6-10pm

Join us for our November zine night, a chance for you to work alone or collaboratively on zines, comics, artist books, or other paper projects in the library. We have: staplers, trimmers, basic drawing supplies, paper, adhesives, scissors, discarded book scraps, scanners, photocopiers (and occasional guest how-to’s).

Read! Talk! Make! Book to Art Club

Wednesday, November 8th, 6-8pm

The Fall 2017 installment of The Book to Art Club features our first title, Grimm’s Fairy Tales. Started by the Library As Incubator Project, the Book to Art Club is a book + art-making club that exists virtually and in-person at libraries around the world. a way to find hands-on, creative ways to engage with literature – where the process of art-making is more important than the product!

Art on the Cheap Panel

Get Your Hustle On is a series of discussions and workshops devoted to the more practical aspects of developing and sustaining a career as a working artists across disciplines. Our first installment, ART ON THE CHEAP, brings practicing artists in for a panel discussion on finding and using upcycled and recycled materials in your work and finding new ways to flourish as an artist on a shoe-string budget.

Aesthetics of Research Salon Series | Carleen Tibbetts and Russel Jaffe

Wednesday, November 15th, 7-9pm

Carleen Tibbetts is the author of the chapbooks “a starving music will come to eat the body” (FiveQuarterly) and “to exosk(elle), the last sugar” (Zoo Cake Press). Recent work appears in TAGVVERK, Datableed, Deluge, The Offending Adam, Dreginald, LaVague, and jubilat, among others. With Isobel O’Hare, she co-edits the experimental journal Dream Pop. Russell Jaffe edits TL;DR magazine (tldrmagazine.com) & films educational literary study guides for Course Hero & teaches at Loyola University & Fusion Academy. He is the author of a few books of poetry, most recently LA CROIX WATER (Damask, ’16). His book Civil Coping Mechanisms is forthcoming from Civil Coping Mechanisms.
