The Center for Black Music Research (CBMR) at Columbia College Chicago will be closed for the installation of a new HVAC system on June 1, 2023, and will reopen January 2, 2024. All physical collections must be removed to an offsite location and all CBMR materials will be unavailable during this time.

Scheduling of onsite and online appointments will resume in November 2023 for dates in January 2024, and CBMR research questions received during closure will be answered in January 2024. Researchers and institutional partners can continue to access some digital materials and finding aids through our Digital Commons repository.

This investment in CBMR infrastructure helps to ensure the long-term preservation of these priceless and essential collections, enabling the Center to continue supporting our vibrant international community of scholars, composers, performers, and students of black music.
