Chicago Humanities Festival. October 29 to November 12
Driverless cars. Climate change. Tweetstorms. Speed is the theme of the 27th annual Chicago Humanities Festival. At more than 100 events between October 29, and November 12, the Festival will explore the impact of the accelerated pace of modern life on individuals and on society. Events are scheduled at locations in Chicago and Evanston. Tickets prices vary; student and teacher discounts are available.
The festival features an impressive lineup of authors, artists, historians, scientists and cultural commentators including writer and activist Dan Savage, Daily Show host Trevor Noah and composer Philip Glass. Lena Waithe, Columbia alumni and “Denise” on the Netflix hit series Master of None will discuss her path to television writing and producing on November 6, at the Art Institute Chicago. A tribute concert to Prince and David Bowie featuring R&B vocalist Jay Brooks and others takes place on November 7 at the Francis Parker School in Lincoln Park.
And finally, this year’s festival puts a spotlight on Chicago’s historic African-American Bronzeville neighborhood with Bronzeville Day, on Friday, November 11.
