Library Zine Night

October 3rd, 6-10pm

Join us for our October Zine Night, a chance for you to work alone or collaboratively on zines, comics, artist books or other paper projects in the library.  This month’s theme is ” Gender/Identity” but all zine-making endeavors are welcome and encouraged.

Identi(tea)s: Queerness and Disability

October 6th, 6:30-8:30pm

As part of LGBT History Month, we’ll be having a conversation on the intersections of being LGBTQIA+ and physically disabled. Joining us is Carrie Kaufman, a queer, disabled artist, activist, collective member of Project Fierce Chicago, and the coordinator for a mentoring program for disabled young people. Come share your experiences as a physically disabled LGBT+ person, or come as an ally to listen and support. Either way, join us for tea, cake, and conversation.

Make N’ Shake Fair

October 12th, 2-4pm

Learn about the maker resources available to you at Columbia and around Chicago! Connect with several Chicago makerspaces plus Columbia spaces like the Workroom, the Library Maker Lab, and Shop Columbia. See what others are making and be inspired!

Kick @ss – Self Defense Class

October 20th, 4-7pm

Join us for an interactive workshop of effective self-defense techniques, Title IX education, and health and safety tips geared towards sexual assault and street crime trends. Everyone is a potential victim of assault. Educate yourself with the tools and knowledge to keep yourself safe in and around Columbia’s urban campus.

Little Indie Press Festival

October 21st, 3-7pm

Join us for our second annual Little Indie Press Festival (during the Wabash Arts Crawl). Featuring many manifestations of Independent publishing, including indie literature, comics, zines, and book arts, the festival seeks to bring together all manner of publishers under one roof to celebrate the spirit of independent publishing , including a publisher’s showcase, readings, zine making and more.

Wicked Week: Frankentoys

October 26th, 2-4pm

Come to the Library to celebrate Wicked Week in all its terrifying glory. We will be tearing apart and reconstructing dolls, stuffed bears, action figures and other toys to create an original FRANKENTOY. Stop by to create your monster and eat some free pizza.
