Friends of the Library Signature Showcase: Melissa Ann Pinney

The Columbia College Chicago Friends of the Library is pleased to have Melissa Ann Pinney as our Fall 2015 Signature Showcase featured speaker. Melissa will discuss her work as a photographer, and sign copies of her latest book, TWO, published by HarperCollins in April 2015.  A light reception will precede her talk.  This program is free and open to the public.

Melissa Ann Pinney has two previously published monographs, Regarding Emma: Photographs of American Women and Girls (2003) and Girl Ascending (2011). She is an adjunct faculty member in the Photography Department at Columbia College Chicago.

Melissa holds a BA from Columbia College Chicago and an MFA from University of Illinois Circle Campus, Chicago. She is a recipient of fellowships from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Illinois Arts Council.

Melissa was a 2011 Photography Award Winner for the Forward Thinking Museum, and a 2012 nominee for the Anonymous Was a Woman Award. She has done editorial photography for the New York Times Magazine, U.S. News & World Report, TIME, Oprah Magazine, Real Simple and many others.

Her photographs are in the permanent collections of many museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the International Center of Photography, The Museum of Contemporary Photography, the George Eastman House, and the J. Paul Getty Museum. Melissa lives in Evanston, Illinois.
