TV REVIEW – My Brother, My Brother, And Me

Have you ever wondered to yourself, “how can I convince my wife to let me get a tarantula?” or “what should I do about all of my roommate’s haunted dolls crowding up my dorm room?” Have you also wondered what the least effective and most ridiculous method of solving your problem is? Well, have I got the show for you. My Brother, My Brother, And Me, adapted from the podcast of the same name, combines humor, charm, and poor decision making in a way that makes you want to watch the whole series in one go.

Brothers Griffin, Travis, and Justin McElroy, who have been running their weekly comedy/advice podcast for just over seven years, host the show. Each episode they attempt to solve a viewer’s dilemma, but not without getting distracted by something that’s only mostly unrelated. The brothers’ personalities are the driving force behind the show’s allure and make the docu-reality format feel more genuine than it would have otherwise.

Fans of the podcast will find My Brother, My Brother, And Me to be a faithful recreation of the original show’s charisma. But even those who have no idea who the McElroy brothers are (e.g., me before watching the show) will be drawn in by the delight and levity that the show brings to the table. Think of My Brother, My Brother, And Me as the more light-hearted and amusingly irresponsible cousin of Nathan For You.

Overall, the show is incredibly enjoyable. It’s the perfect thing to watch when you need a break from whichever serious/dark/thoughtful show you currently find yourself in the middle of. Do yourself a favor, and start with either episode 2 (Resumes & Jamiroqui’s Dad) or episode 3 (Tarantulas & Travis Did a Hit). The entire season can be found on the streaming service VRV, free of cost.
