Sid Branca is a Chicago-based interdisciplinary artist & writer. She works primarily in performance, but also makes use of sound, video, text, installation, and digital media to create theatrical and sensory experiences.
She collides the Western canon of classical tragedy with contemporary pop/digital culture, drawing out parallels while exploring issues of gender and the body’s relationship to technology.
She is invested in the democratization of media and undermining extant hierarchies of cultural production and analysis. Her background in theater, circus, and comparative literature, alongside her interests in Surrealism, gender studies, and pop icons, has heavily informed her expanded media practice.
Branca holds a degree in Performance Studies from the University of Chicago, and is currently pursuing an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts & Media at Columbia College Chicago. Branca is an Artistic Associate with First Floor Theater, and a member of the New Media Caucus and the College Art Association. See http://sidbranca.com for more.
