Global Marketing Strategies and Cultural Diversity: A Paris Study Abroad Experience

The Marketing in Europe: Paris study abroad course led by Professor of Instruction Monique Maye offers a unique and transformative learning opportunity in the form of an exciting marketing class that attracts students from various disciplines. This class provides a comprehensive foundation in marketing principles, equipping students with the essential knowledge and skills to succeed in this dynamic field.

Professor Monique Maye said, “That is just the beginning. The class takes students on a thrilling journey of discovery, exploring the world of global marketing and how companies position themselves in different regions of the world. The course is tailor-made to reflect the diverse backgrounds of the students, ensuring that everyone gains a unique perspective on how brands market themselves.”

To truly experience the world of marketing, the class embarks on a series of company visits, where they have the opportunity to learn from marketing professionals, CEOs, and Directors of Marketing. These visits offer a chance to gain insight into the different marketing strategies employed by companies and marketing agencies.

The class is not only about marketing theory and company visits. It also provides students with ample opportunities to explore the rich culture of France. They get to indulge in the local cuisine, visit historical landmarks and immerse themselves in the local way of life.

In addition, the class visited iconic venues such as the Moulin Rouge, where they got a behind-the-scenes tour of the famous cabaret and even got to step onto the stage. Graduate student Lynreshay Johnson said, “One of the things I particularly enjoyed is our extracurricular activities. We had the privilege of receiving activities curated specifically to our interests. One of our days contained an adventure outside of the city for an exclusive tour of the Chateau de Fontainebleau, one of the largest French royal castles. We also got to visit Moulin Rouge, the most famous cabaret in the world, where we got to speak to their PR team, get a tour backstage, meet one of the dancers, and also watch the show. These unique experiences definitely added to the overall experience and value of the program by immersing us in French culture and history.”

Students also visited the Olympics Paris 2024 headquarters and had a rare opportunity to meet with the marketing coordinators for the Olympics. The students learned about the impact of the pandemic on the event, the opening and closing ceremonies, and the Paralympics. The students gained a unique insight into the world’s most celebrated sporting event, and the experience left them inspired and enlightened.

Professor Monique Maye mentioned that, “This class offers students the chance to network with various agencies and potentially secure internships. Students have the opportunity to take their learning beyond the classroom and into the real world.”

This study abroad program is a transformative experience that equips students with a broad knowledge of marketing principles and an intimate understanding of the global marketing landscape. It offers students the opportunity to learn from marketing professionals, visit iconic venues, explore the local culture, and network with agencies. It is an experience that will remain with students for a lifetime and set them on a path to success in the exciting world of marketing.
