Student Experience: SXSW 2016

This year roughly 100 of Columbia’s community consisting of students and faculty from the Business & Entrepreneurship Department will head to Austin, Texas to participate in South by Southwest (SXSW). The SXSW conference and festival highlights innovative original music, independent films, and emerging technologies.

Graduate and undergraduate students from AEMMP Rock, AEMMP Hip-Hop, AEMMP Talent Agency, AEMMP Digital Distribution and Promotion Agency, and AEMMP Publishing practicum classes attend the event to gain experience through marketing and promoting their bands in different Austin events/venues. While in Austin, the students will host their fourth annual networking event, AEMMP Records, Unofficial Day Party, at the Bat Bar on March 17 from 12-6.

The AEMMP Records showcase will feature talent such as Shah Jahan, Yoko and the Oh No’s, The Lucky Dutch, and other guests.

The adventure from Chicago to Austin gives students a real-world opportunity to experience the industry. SXSW speakers and participants represent active professional members of the music, film, and interactive arts industries.
