Course Spotlight: AEMMPlify Mixer Networking Event

AEMMPlify Promo PosterAEMMPlify kicked off their year with a Music & Media Networking Event on October 21st. Over 50 people represented the Music, Cinema and CMI departments alone. Ready to explore new collaboration opportunities, students packed The Haus for free food, raffle prizes, copyright information, and more.

Not only was the mixer a networking event, but it was also an informational session for musicians and media creators. There were presentations tailored to these artists that covered requirements for submissions and requests to AEMMPlify. AEMMPlify was also able to spread awareness about their services and allow students to build their portfolio and collaborative projects.

Columbia students who attended the event experienced a trivia game and an informational session. As expressed by Gama, a student in the AEMMPlify class, “They were really excited to finally have a situation in which they could interact with other majors and possibly come out already with a project in the works.” Music students were also afforded the opportunity to learn more about copyright laws and how to affiliate themselves with performing rights organizations.

The AEMMP Music Publishing: Practicum (AEMMPlify) course provides students with an experiential learning opportunity operating a student-run music publishing organization. Students will work with music rights holders and clients in need of music content for various media applications. Areas of focus will include A&R (Artist & Repertoire), publishing administration, licensing strategy, and royalty collection. Students will gain publishing management experience as they facilitate licensing opportunities for artists.
