Date: 11/19/2009
On Monday November 16th, the Audio Arts and Acoustics Live Sound Studio in the Lower Level of 33 E. Congress was was filled to capacity for a demonstration of the department’s brand new DiGiCo SD8 digital mixing console. Group One, Ltd’s National Sales Manager for Professional Audio Products, Matt Larson, demonstrated the console’s cutting edge audio technology.
The demonstration addressed the console’s digital audio processing and signal flow features, flexibility of operation, ability to store, retrieve, and re-assign anything from entire mixing sessions to individual channel settings, and expandability potential. The presentation was followed by an energetic Q&A session touching on FOH and monitor mixing techniques, the importance of floating-point digital audio processing, and the future of digital technology in live and studio sound mixing.
Over 80 students, alumni, faculty, and industry professionals gathered for an evening of state-of-the art audio technology, lively networking, and plenty of Lou Malnati’s pizza.
Michelle Passarelli, Assistant Director of Alumni Operations, and David Lewis, Creative Industry Liaison for the Portfolio Center attended the demonstration, in addition to several members of Technotrix, a major player in live sound within the Midwest – and an Audio Arts & Acoustics alumni favorite.

DiGiCo consoles currently feature in tours by artists such as Aerosmith, ZZ Top, David Burne, and The Doves, and in events that include UK’s Big Chill Festival, the Montreux Jazz Festival, and the stage production of Billy Elliot The Musical.
The Audio Arts & Acoustics Department would like to thank Group One, Ltd and Matt Larson for their time, expertise, and generosity.
