CALL FOR PROPOSALS: Soundwave ((7)) ARCHITECTURE

Soundwave ((7)) ARCHITECTURE Call for Proposals

http://soundwavesf.com/7/soniclabs/

The next season of Soundwave will explore our sonic relationships to ARCHITECTURE, the processes and products of constructing environments. As San Francisco is currently experiencing rapid transformations of our cityscape, we are looking for innovative artists, performers, musicians, architects and designers who can translate our evolving landscape through sound and delve into the deeper layers of our built environments and its sociopolitical and ecological impacts locally and globally. Soundwave is looking for experiential performances that investigate new connections to Architecture though the sonic spectrum and beyond. We seek musical/sonic compositions, audio and visual collaborations, generative art, immersive and interactive environments, sonic dance collaborations, new media, and concept pieces by local, national and international artists with the intention of transforming both audiences and the spaces they will inhabit.

QUESTIONS
How does our built environment affect how we perceive and hear sound? How does sound affect our experience within a space? How does the design of our cities shape our sonic lives? How do our constructs echo ourselves in our minds and our bodies? What will our cities of the future sound like? How do new technologies and innovations affect what we can design and build? How do buildings communicate our pasts, present and future? How can we translate the San Francisco buildings and communities that it inhabits into a sonic language?

FESTIVAL DETAILS
Dates and Venues: Soundwave will take place sometime between July and September 2016 at multiple venues in San Francisco. We work with the invited artist to schedule available dates, as well as venues appropriate for their work. Typically, specific dates and venues are confirmed three months in advance.

ARTIST FEES: Fees to performing artists are modest. Amount is dependent on grant awards and fundraising currently in process. Typically, fees are confirmed three months in advance of performance date.

TRAVEL: We invite all artists to submit proposals, but we are unable to offer financial assistance to cover travel costs for those outside the Bay Area. We ask our international artists and American artists residing outside of the Bay Area to apply for travel funding through their national arts councils and private foundations in their home country (ie. Canadian Artists – Canada Council for the Arts). We will need to be notified of your travel award or notification of self-travel by February 1, 2016.

JURY: Soundwave ((7)) curatorial committee is made up of Bay Area creative professionals from diverse sonic and artistic backgrounds led by MEDIATE Artistic Director Tiare Ribeaux. The committee rigorously juries proposals based on congruity of theme, ingenuity of project, diversity of artists’ perspective, and feasibility of production.
