MA student Becky Aguilar installed The Airing as her final step for a Directed Graduate Project, a three credit course where students work on a proposed individual project with regular meetings with faculty.

The Airing explores storytelling, primarily family stories and traditions. Over time stories get fuzzy around the edges, details overlap and sometimes the stories even cease to be told. The piece takes those stories out of mothballs and gives them the space and acknowledgment they deserve, while preserving what is left. Aguilar used an image transfer technique on the handkerchiefs, kitchen towels and doilies to mimic how details are lost through the passing down of stories.
