Visiting lecturer Julia Goodman’s work is on the cover of Poetry Magazine for the April issue, which coincides with National Poetry Month. Fred Sasaki, art director for Poetry Magazine and gallery curator for the Poetry Foundation, saw Goodman’s work Gnoman I (2014) at the Rooted In Soil exhibition at DePaul Art Museum, where the twomet at the exhibition opening. Sasaki, enjoying the work’s aesthetic and conceptual qualities as well as the play on words for the April issue (featuring BreakBeat poetry; Gnoman I uses beets as a material), asked if he could use an image of it on the cover.

Goodman is “very flattered” to have her work featured in the publication, and notes that Book and Paper alumna Krista Franklin’s work has also been on a Poetry Magazine cover (click here and scroll down to read more about their cover art). Goodman appreciates that having her work on the magazine’s cover “encourages a poetic interpretation of the skin-like abstractions…bodies, landscapes, micro and macro references.”
