GENERAL DUTIES
– Performs highly-skilled laboratory functions and other technical duties in support of coursework.
– Sets up, maintains, and organizes student laboratories
– Assists students with setting up experiments and other learning exercises, and with the use of equipment and materials
– Maintains appropriate safety and hygiene standards
– Maintains required documentation related to laboratory activities
– Manages equipment and materials inventories.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The Art Department Visual Media Lab College Laboratory Technician (CLT) will assist with coordination and maintenance of a new Visual Media Lab that will primarily serve the Art History, Studio Art, and Art Education areas of the Art Department. The CLT will report to the Art History Program Director and be responsible for the maintenance, and troubleshooting of lab and classroom computers, printers, networks, and software for art, art history, and design programs. The CLT will assist lab users, hire and supervise student lab assistants, manage equipment checkout, and monitor Art History classrooms for maintenance and upkeep of equipment. She/he will handle all student and faculty image-scanning requests and provide support for art library databases such as ArtStor and SharedShelf and for departmental websites. The CLT will also provide basic training and support instructions
for students in Art History, Studio Art, and Art Education students; provide media lab support for faculty
and the department. The position includes providing support for the Art History program and other
areas; assisting with related instructional activities; and orienting student and new instructors in the use of the facilities/equipment. The CLT will also perform any other related tasks assigned by the Art History Program Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma with a minimum of four years’ related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for four years experience.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
City College experience preferred. A strong background in Art History and/or Fine Art. An MA or MFA degree is strongly preferred. The position requires strong interpersonal, leadership, and management skills, organizational ability with attention to detail and the ability to develop and implement organizational procedures and policies, excellent writing and oral communication skills, and technical expertise including server maintenance, screen calibration, the use of Powerpoint, various Adobe Creative Suite software (especially Photoshop, Lightroom, and Camera Raw), Corel Draw, AutoCad, FileMaker, and Excel. Candidates should be able to guide students with workflow from file input and scanning to file preparation. Knowledge of video editing software such as Final Cut Pro or Premiere is also preferred and an understanding of print drivers, print software, printer maintenance.

COMPENSATION
Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
