Sophie Kahn will be speaking at 6:30 p.m. this Thursday, September 11, in the Raw Space on the 2nd floor of 1104 S. Wabash. Kahn is a Brooklyn-Based, Australian new media artist who works with video, animation, 3D imaging and Digital Sculpture. Kahn is the first Artist-in-Residence to the Media Program, spending the month of September with us creating artwork based on 3D Printing techniques that she has used in her artwork for several years. She is currently teaching a one credit 3D Printing course in the Interdisciplinary Arts department.

Her work owes its fragmented aesthetic to the interaction of new and old media, or the digital and the analog. She combines cutting-edge technology, like 3d laser scanning and 3d printing, with ancient bronze casting techniques. She creates sculptures and videos that resemble de-constructed monuments or memorials. They engage questions of time, history, vision, identity and the body.
