Sid Branca performs at a recent Salonathon.
Second-year InterArts student Sid Branca will be performing a collaborative piece with Malic White of the Neo-Futurists on Monday January 27 as part of Salonathon, a weekly event for experimental and genre-defying performance. Branca summarizes this particular performance as exploring “the pains we endure to be what we are and to know what we know, what we resist in ourselves and others and what we submit to, the deliberate obscuring of text, the struggle of a difficult task, the practice of witch-pricking and devil’s marks, queerness and dreams and esoteric knowledge, and what it means to recognize all of that in someone else. ”

Joe Varisco curates one Salonathon a month in a series called LEX·I·CA. This month’s LEX·I·CA theme is “Resist/Submit” and “is a celebration of the ways in which we communicate with one another and the knowledge we share in this process. Collaborations! Energy spasms! More than survival. We get down to the grit, the deep queer, the post-queer, the ultradimensional and transcendent. We take risks, challenge norms, resist and thrive on the stage, in the crowd and on the dance floor. Come take a taste.”
Salonathon is regularly held at The Beauty Bar, and admission is free. Performances begin at 9:00 p.m.
