The groundbreaking Chicago Imagist artist Phyllis Bramson is this winter’s first Artist-in-Residence at Anchor Graphics. Although the fall semester has come to an end, Anchor’s studio is humming along as Bramson creates work that questions the distinction between high and low art while presenting and embracing ambiguity.

Working with Anchor Graphics’ Master Printers Chris Flynn, David Jones, and intern Jazmin Dua, Bramson is taking full advantage of her three-week residency, to create work that, as she says, “…percolates forth life’s imperfections: that doesn’t take decorum all that seriously.”

Bramson was recently selected as one of the Women’s Caucus for Art Lifetime Achievement recipients for 2014. This prestigious award, first presented in 1979 by President Jimmy Carter, recognizes the contributions made by women who have distinguished themselves by their activism and commitment to the women’s movement and to the arts. The awards are part of the Women’s Caucus for Art Annual Conference, held in conjunction with the Annual Conference of the College Art Association in Chicago this coming February.
