Assistant Professor of Art (New Media) – Faculty Position (11011)
Department of Art, Salisbury University Maryland.
Area of Specialization: New Media, including digital time based and interactive design.
Primary Job Duties/Responsibilities: Teach three courses per semester, including all levels of interactive and digital arts; coordinating and developing the departments New Media concentration and serving as the primary Art Department player in the Integrated Media Center (IMC), a collaborative studio/classroom environment combining elements of the Art, Music and Communication Arts Departments; advising students and some service work after the first year. Continuing professional activity, at a level appropriate to the teaching load, is also expected. Expected to pursue ongoing creative and scholarly activities at the national and collegial level. Participation in all aspects of the department including contributing to administrative and committee work within the department, the Fulton School of Liberal Arts, and the University.
The IMC includes a professional audio recording studio, professional television production facilities, multimedia student labs/classrooms, individual video and audio editing suites, a digital photography lab and the Electronic Gallery. The Electronic Gallery, though small, is sited in a prominent spot on the ground floor of the IMC facility. The approximately 500 square-foot gallery contains four LCD monitors and four digital projectors for display, a ceiling grid for hanging lights and equipment, and plywood-backed walls for flexible artwork installation. Demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate education and utilize effective teaching and classroom management strategies which enhance the success of diverse learners. Candidates must demonstrate effective teaching strategies and techniques to enhance the success of students with diverse learning styles.
Minimum Qualifications: M.F.A. in New Media, Interactive or Digital Media, or related field. A minimum of two years teaching experience at a community college or university level. Professional creative experience, including a production record in Motion Design, Animation, Digital or New Media, Interactive Design, or related discipline.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Demonstrated ability to collaborate with gallery staff in curating New Media exhibitions and programming visiting artists is a plus. Research interest and/or community involvement in design fields such as Motion Graphics, Animation, Digital or New Media, Interactive Design, or related discipline. Professional experience in motion picture industry, game development, or graphic design fields, or new media gallery exhibitions is desirable. Software proficiency in Cinema 4D, or other digital 3D programs; in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Dreamweaver, Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign; and in After Effects, Final Cut, or other sound and video creation/editing programs preferred. Demonstrated collaborative experience with faculty across disciplines in a collegial manner. Prior teaching experience in New Media using animation and interactive design software, prior experience developing advanced courses in interactive and digital arts are preferred.
