Call for Volunteers for the Papermakers’ Garden

The remodeling of the Papermaker’s Garden at 8th and Wabash is going strong, and FAST! The new construction is on schedule to be completes later this month. The official “grand opening celebration” will take place just a little before the last nail is hammered in, to coincide with this week’s Wabash Arts Corridor Crawl on Wednesday, September 18. Gathering at the Garden for speeches and a commemorative cheer at 5:30 pm will be members of our InterArts community, neighbors, friends, and representatives from the college administration and the City of Chicago. To get ready for the big day will take lots of ready hands and strong arms.

CBPA’s Studio Technician and Special Projects Coordinator April Sheridan has put out a call for volunteers help with moving plants from the paper studio at 1104 S Wabash to the garden site. The goal is to get them plants into the ground and water them profusely before the WAC begins, and have them waving in the breeze when the commemoration ceremony gets underway.

Monday September 16 is the big day for volunteers. Interested students should meet in the Paper Studio at 1:00 p.m. to assemble, get instructions, and start the move. Volunteers should wear appropriate gardening clothing, and bring gardening gloves if you have them.
