Mahoney’s on Ogden Ave. was the site for a “summer planning meeting,” as alums and continuing MFAs gathered to celebrate the end of the academic year. Graduating MFA Mike LaHood (“Hoodie”) had recently won a “Happy Hour for 30” at the pub, and invited fellow InterArts colleagues to join him in celebrating the closing of the InterArts MFA Thesis Exhibition and its de-installation.
On the Mahoney’s patio, in the setting sunlight of a beautiful spring evening, planning commenced for the community of artists to meet up again this summer for upcoming Karaoke challenges, two-step dancing with the Hoyle Brothers at the Empty Bottle’s Honky Tonk Happy Hour, and dropping in at the upcoming Co-Prosperity Sphere exhibition opening on May 31. The exhibition, entitled If All Else Fails, includes both Media and Book and Paper alumni, and features work in many forms, including paper, installation, and performance. Exhibiting artists include Jenny Garnet, Michelle Graves, Kaitlin Kostus, Trisha Martin, Amy Rabas, Nicolas Ruley, Michael Chad St. John, Kellen Elizabeth Walker, Moe Yousuf, and Maggie Puckett.
Puckett’s piece pictured here, The Indigenous, is part of her larger body of work Jungle Occupation, on display at the show. This new series is a collection of portraits and landscapes related to environmental destruction in the Amazon rainforest, and those who protest it.
