The full Mordine & Company Dance Theater opens their new show NEXT 2013 this Thursday and Friday at Hamlin Park Fieldhouse Theater with special premieres by their two Mentoring Program recipients, InterArts MFA Penelope Hearne and Liana Percoco. The program, which begins at 7:30 p.m. both evenings, will feature new pieces set on the company by the two choreographers, who have been mentored by Shirley Mordine this past semester to bring their work to full production.
The program will also include a performance piece by Mordine & Company member and choreographer Monica Thomas. Working in collaboration with video artist Jason Chiu, Thomas has created a performance piece that integrates pre-recorded video, live streamed video, and live dance. Guest Artist Art Union Humanscape’s Ayako Kato presents the “Untitled” series, which digs into human unconsciousness to physically designate indescribable complicacy and simplicity of human existence.
Tickets are still available for the show, which is a Time Out Chicago “Critic’s Pick” for this week, and is also featured on See Chicago Dance. Ticket information can be found here.
