Coming this fall, Anchor Graphics will offer a new class on the copperplate photogravure technique. This class joins the regular schedule of Anchor Graphics noncredit classes such as etching, silkscreen printing, and lithographic processes, but for the first time students enrolled in the class will earn three undergraduate academic credits.

The course will be taught by Anchor Graphics’ master printer Chris Flynn, a staff member since 2007. Flynn has been teaching Anchor’s community classes since the studio migrated to Columbia as one of its professional practices centers. Flynn’s fall schedule looks action-packed, with teaching the credit- and noncredit classes, working on Anchor Graphics’ Publishing Projects collaborations, and added on top of that, starting his first year in the InterArts Book and Paper MFA program as a graduate student. “I’ll be faculty, staff, and student all at the same time,” he laughs.

Starting the InterArts program opens up new technical and conceptual possibilities in Flynn’s already prolific artistic practice, and illustrates the benefits of Columbia’s Interdisciplinary Arts program for mid-career contemporary artists.

Summer 2013 will be busy at Anchor Graphics. After Manifest, watch for the launch of their new Second Release Series of limited edition print sales from their archives.
