We seek a lecturer in digital media experienced in
one or several of the fields of:
· digital media
· electronic entertainment
· graphics/animation; and
· information/graphic/web design
Position Type: Permanent, Teaching Faculty
Ideally, this person combines strong design and production skills together with programming and scripting skills. Versatility is a plus as we seek an individual broadly experienced in digital media, electronic entertainment and/or graphics/ animation.
The School of Interactive Arts + Technology (SIAT) is a vibrant, multidisciplinary program that integrates the arts, design, science, and technology. Its teaching and research draw upon fields ranging from media arts, electronic games, design, and information technology. SIAT offers degrees at the bachelor, master and doctoral level. The School currently enrolls about 830 undergraduates and 120 graduate students, some 60 of whom are at the doctoral level.
SIAT is located in purpose-built, state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories at SFU’s Surrey campus. Simon Fraser University at Surrey, the University’s newest campus, is located in the greater Vancouver region of British Columbia. The area is home to Canada’s cultural and entertainment industry and much of its digital media production. The region’s rich cultural, natural and intellectual resources make it one of the world’s most desirable places to live and work.
Qualifications:
Applicants will normally have a graduate degree in fields such as design, new media or electronic games. The successful candidate will have strong teaching skills based in a robust background in commercial or academic practice. He or she will have studio-based design practice focus, able to do effective critique and student mentoring. Candidates should be strong in teaching written English for academic work and able to inspire good writing among lower division students.
The successful candidate will have a strong potential for undergraduate curriculum development to update SIAT’s curriculum as technologies and skills change. He or she should have undergraduate teaching experience, have high potential for instructional innovation and should be familiar with several instructional formats, including team-based, computer-mediated and interdisciplinary approaches. All SIAT faculty must have a high degree of technological literacy regardless of their particular disciplinary background. SIAT faculty members are expected to contribute to school leadership and program development.
